Dear Grandpa

Dear Grandpa: It Was a Weird Day

You drove all the way to the coast to come see us this weekend. It is pretty funny seeing you have a beer in your hand because I rarely remember you drinking.

Dear Grandpa,
I had a rough day yesterday, both you and my dad were on my mind all day. I did call dad to wish him a happy Father’s Day but I didn’t head over to Bakersfield to visit; it was hard enough just talking to him on the phone. I spoke to my mom too and at first I thought something was wrong by the softness of her voice, but it turns out that she is really missing you, especially today.

I reminded her of all the wonderful years we were able spend the weekends with you and grandma and that I love and miss you too.  I miss the days of you coming to watch me at my track meets. I miss going to Thrifty’s to get a scoop of ice cream. I miss doing miscellaneous chores for you like feeding and watering the chickens, shining your shoes and washing your truck. And I miss being called Maritzes. I think about you all the time. I wish you were here. I love you Grandpa.

Dear Grandpa

Dear Grandpa,
You came to me in my dream last night. It was sad seeing you cry but I was so happy to hug you. I miss you. I love you. Wish you were here and will think of you tonight in my race.
